The Working Group 3 of DENORMS Action, dedicated to the industry,  aims at connecting the laboratory research teams and activities with the industrial research teams and needs in the domain of porous materials (PM), meta-materials (MM), metasurfaces (MS) and phononic and sonic crystals (SC). The final goal is clearly to transfer these innovations towards industrial applications in various domains like aeronautics, buildings, automotive or electronic consumers industries.

Beyond the noise treatments purposes of these innovations, industrial actors have to share with the academic actors, the multi-constraint specifications of their final application in order to converge to optimized and practical material designs bringing value to the end consumer. Typically, frequency ranges of interest, temperature of use, flammability, mechanical resistance (etc.) are key characteristics to be tuned in parallel in order to apply any new noise treatments effectively.

These multi-physics constraints and purposes have to be shared between the academic and industrial teams in order to orientate the research activities in a smart way. For example, micro-macro approaches enable the chemist and the acoustic engineer to speak the same language using microstructure morphologies and converge together to an optimum poroelastic material design and/or layup.
